Hello, i am new to the mustang world.

hello my name is Branden, i just bought a 2001 mustang about a week and a half ago. My friend Vince (06silverbullet) recommended me to come here so i did.

The car is originally a V6 that has been converted to a cobra, or as my friend says "Fobra" and it is a fixer uper. I am going to be turning this car into a clean, fast, daily driver.

I need help deciding on what is better route for certain things because this is my first mustang so i don't know what is good, bad, or ugly.

Basic thoughts are (as of now at least) put the stock 01 cobra bumpers back on (currently has the saleen body kit), leave the cobra R style hood that is currently installed, new paint (still deciding on color), see about cleaning up the curb rash on the rims, and overall just freshen everything up, make it my own.

The paint is very bad, the previous owner use spray paint to paint it this horrible red orange, he also painted some interior panels so all those need to be changed, it has some Corbeau seats that need to be reupholstered, the carpet has tons of soda stains so that's being replaced, i want to do a full head to tails sweep to make sure anything that might need replacing is replaced.

I already dug into the car a little, i pulled out the center console and both seats, pulled up old carpet and started to lay down some new carpet, new shift knob and different handle, i have all the main fluids (tranny, diff, power steering, brake, etc) and i still need to replace fuel filter and spark plugs.

The engine runs good except it has a little hesitation or sputter when accelerating, it has long tube headers an H pipe and flowmaster exhaust but i want to replace all of that and go stock manifolds, and X pipe and magnapacks.

I feel like this is going on way to long i apologize for that, but if anyone has any recommendations i am always open to advice. Thank you :D

Edit: Just noticed that the dash is out of a 94-97 Mustang, its black and has the dash clock which only came in 94-97s.

it doesn't bother me that much, i have seen people replace the clock with a gauge setup so if i ever get a supercharger then i can run a boost gauge.

Wasnt talking about you. My jeep hadnt ran in 7 years. They went threw it and got it running. Currently using it off road on my job site. Im refurring to the negative vibe on this site. Keep hoping it will change tho

I guess I'm a stuck up prick :laugh: this car is one giant piece of shit and I've driven a pos once or twice in my day. As far as the sinergy comment I am more than experienced to speak on this. Talk.to me when sinergy leaves you with a leaky whiney rear end some dumb ass wiring on a boost gauge and a intercooler pump that wasn't wired correctly. Oh yeah and please tell me where to get my fog lights replaced as water gets in them and my hid kit flickers.... So much for a life time warranty huh? Fuck sinergy and fuck you too for trying to be a nice guy. Pick up your toys and leave the sand box because the pricks are here

everyone learns differently... some ppl learn from other's experience and some people need to experience it for themselves to full accept the issues... good luck man but to be honest, u should just sell it for as close to what u paid as u can get and start with a better platform.


vince mentioned that you know all about the sts drama... did he tell you that the same group of guys that told him not to do it, told him it would be a disaster, and also told him to go another route.... are the same dudes telling you to sell the car.

i plan on sticking with the car, there is no reason to sell the car, it runs great it has no mechanical issues, the only problem is the cosmetic crap, i really do appreciate all the advice and guidance. i have been tinkering with it for the last week and it already looks better, new carpet new shift knob and handle, and i am already in process of removing the paint front the interior.

I would start with a cleaner car.. maybe pull the good stuff of that one, engine and what not and dump it into a cleaner car.. your already into to it more than its worth and you dont know if it has or had any major damages..a car that old shouldnt need that much work to make it look and run good..

What did your mechanic say when he looked over the car before you bought it? Please don't tell me that you bought a car with rattle can paint, rattle can interior, wrong engine, wrong dash, etc etc with out having a trained mechanic go over it. Post your smog certificate and that will tell us alot about how the engine is running. I am kinda suprised that it passed smog with hesitation on acceleration.
