Ok as I write this my car is sitting on the side of the road waiting for AAA and I am pissed..since I bought the car the car has stumbled from time to time when taking off from 1st and shifting to second and I thought that was me just messing up.
These symptoms were happening for the first month or so and after that month it stopped so I thought I had mastered the clutch and shifting..it happened very rarwly in between then but once again I thought it was my fault.
I have now had the car for 4 months now, and I was shifting great using the clutch good and all but today the RPMs were at about 6 or 700 rpm at idle and when I try to give it gas the car stumbles ALOT more than when I 1st got it and I thought it was me but now im sure its the car.
So to be more direct my car idles at about 700rpm and when I try to take off in 1st the car jerks back and forth repeatedly and when I try to shift to second it keeps doing it in second gear also and now in 3rd
Can you guys please help, any KNOWLEDGEABLE input is valued sorry if grammar is bad
BTW my mach is a 2003 5spd..no mods except MAC catback..car has 85000 miles on it..if there are any other questions feel free to ask

take it to a shop to be diagnosed ASAP. Might be a wee bit more accurate than an online diagnostic.

Might be the IAC (idle air control) valve going or gone bad. I had the same problem and my car would die when I would give it a little gas. Ended up being that the IAC was bad, replaced it and it was good.

Yup. I have an auto and when I would put it into drive the rpms would drop to 500 and it would stutter. Then when I gave it a little gas it would stutter, choke and die. When I gave it a lot of gas it would stutter and then surge forward.

The IAC might be on its way out then. Definitely get the IAC checked out.

this....
Check engine light on? If so thats the first thing I would do is pull codes, if not any codes I would just run a koer test.
btw I wouldn't just go out and start throwing parts at it without diagnosing it properly first.

But get the entire car checked out to make sure you find the actual problem. I checked the plugs, COPS, MAF, TB, etc. before I found that the IAC was the cause.

it's not the question of being used, its how the previous owner treated it. my car if it weren't for me doing anything to it wouldn't have had a single issue. ive had no mechanical issues or electrical issues with the stock stuff. it's all been aftermarket stuff thats caused issues which i have pretty much all fixed.

I agree with Shawn on the IAC, but before replacing, take it off and spray it with some Carb cleaner and see if it is just gunked up. Usually a good clean will make them like new again.

For a couple weeks anyway. But it's a good call to see if that fixes it. If the surging/stalling goes away, buy a new OEM/Motorcraft unit. Don't cheap out on the vatozone crap, not near as good. Plus, they last several years, so what's $100 over the next 7 years?

Ok update if anyone cares..i just said F it and took my mach to a local FORD dealer and the problem one of their techs came across was I have 6 bad coils out of 8 so they want 857 bucks and change for the repairs..well I'm about to go up there and get my car and do the repairs myself..now can someone please tell me how to check if that was correct diagnosis after putting the new coils in?
Also is ford the only place I should get my coils from or can i get em from autozone or o'reilly or someplace besides ford?

you can test the resistance of the coils, but you need to look up the procedure online. Also, if you need a cheap/quick fix, there are usually deals on used COPs on svtp or ebay all day long, usually find them for about $100 or so for all 8. make sure you get the 4v COPs and not the 2v COPs as they are different. problem is that they are used and known for going out....
if you dont mind spending some money, wouldnt be a bad time to upgrade to some aftermarket ones. no real benefit to them tho, aside from being brand new and probably cheaper than OEM ones from ford.

i guess it kinda depends on which ones you go with....
www.fordparts.com has each coil listed at about $73 bucks, so 8 of them would be $584, and 6 would be $438
summit has the set of 8 MSD coils at $385, and accel at $203. dunno if i would trust any of the other brands on summit, and i know you can probably get a better deal on OEM COPs if you go with someone who will hook you up.

WINNING!!!!!!!
You get this fixed? IMHO, don't go with aftermatket COPs. About two years ago I had the two rear COPs on mine go out due to the used car dealer having washed the engine bay (water is known to seep past/thru the COP cover via the wireharness opening thus shorting out the rear COPs! You'll also end up with a small puddle of gunky water in the plug hole). A good friend of mine recommended a seller on eBay to me. This guy/company sells slightly used OEM Ford parts for extremely reasonable prices....I just can't recall what the eBay screen name is, sorry! :( Anyway, just an FYI, NOT ALL 4V COPs ARE THE SAME! Make sure you get them for your year car ('03-'04). That same friend of mine had a pair of COPs he loaned me to put on my car. Well when I tried installing them, I found that the female part on his COP was shaped different then mine, thus not allowing my COP harness to plug in! Just some food for thought! GL man, hope you get her fixed and up and running quick!
