Where the hell can I buy one of these?

I'm replacing everything in the cooling system of my `97 right now, and going away from the cobbled together radiator hose setup that I 'made work' when I first got the swap running -

and I am trying to duplicate the 96-98 cobra hose setup exactly, as I figured for the long run this would be easiest for maint. when getting replacements.

So I got a proper cobra tstat housing, but my buddy that works at the parts counter at a Ford dealer in SB was unable to get me 2 hoses as they are NLA from Ford, one is the engine oil cooler to tstat, not a big deal as I was able to make something work from an old hose, and the other is this damn overflow bottle to tstat housing hose, marked "to canton" in this pic -

(note - it took me HOURS of googling to find that single picture showing the hose routing, not even my Ford shop manual DVD has a damn picture!)

50resto lists a full hose kit for $105, but they are out of stock, they don't list a part # for the hose but it shows as being included, that's the only place I can find it. Napa / O'Reily's both do not have anything that would work, I brought in my old GT hose which is similar but ~2-3"s too short to compare off of to what they had on the shelves...

is this the same hose config as later 99/01/03-04 cobra's / mach1's? Could I use those parts? I can't find any pictures of their hose routing setups either.

same set up on any 4v actually (except the 03/04 cobra). also, another thing you can try that MIGHT work is getting the 2v hose, and cutting off the section of that hose that goes to the overflow/degas tank. it SHOULD have the same diameter opening, but ive never tried this so i dunno if it will work.

Thats what I did with my old setup (cut the 2v hose) but thats 2-3"s too short with the cobra tstat housing and longer hose from the crossover...

I'll start looking for later 4v hoses

oh yeah...never noticed it sat that much lower. maybe just go to autozone and look thru their hoses to see if they have one that fits both the housing and the bottle, and just cut to fit.

Ya I tried that, no dice at 2 shops.

Just ordered mach1 hoses through the local dealer, should be in tomorrow to give them a shot

well that sucks. kinda gives me one more reason to stay 2v haha (albeit a sucky one at best)

you could always run the mark8 rad hose config like I did in the past, the mark8 tstat housing is shaped differently and works with the 2v overflow/oil cooler hoses cut off the T

I just want my swap to look/function 100% like a factory cobra would.

Pretty sure RockAuto has the hose you're looking for also....

only thing I found at RA was 'cut to fit' stuff, not direct fit

Under 2003 Mach1, there is a "Coolant Recovery Tank Hose". Is that it?

I think that's the wording they use for the other hose, the small one from the radiator to the tube on top of the overflow tank

Got it all together, and I also got a new coolant crossover plug made for me by a guy off Corral.

nice, although ive never had issues with that crossover plug, ive known of others who have. most usually end up using vise grips to get that sucker off. haha.

and i can see where the hood is rubbing :look:

yeah it rubs just a little, LOL.

Took it last weekend to half moon bay and monterey bay, 26mpg there and back, rolled 170k on the odometer, so that's about 25k miles on my motor swap. Never had an issue other than the waterpump leaking a few weeks ago before I replaced all this cooling stuff :)

not bad dude, id be happy if i get back to anything above 15mpg city driving. haha. i think im down in the high 13mpg range right now. my engine has about 10k miles on it now, which i consider a huge milestone since i built it myself. lol.

hey, wasnt there a guy on SCS selling an OEM cobra hood? cant remember what color it was tho.

Yeah but you're on e85, big difference!

Mod motors aren't scary, I'm surprised more people don't do swaps with these, the electronics are very simple and it's really easy to tune.

I'm pretty happy with the stock GT exterior for now, I really don't like the way the cobra hoods look so it bummed me out that the intake hits the hood when I shut it.

why not trying to move the engine back a bit? 1/2 an inch or so closer to the firewall? i did this on accident when i dropped by kmember, didnt realize it until i started looking at other mustangs and couldnt figure out why they had so much more room between the firewall and the manifold.
