Has anyone done a eaton swap on their cobra/mach 1? I plan on doing one, but damn..the part list seems pretty big..and every time I find someone selling a "complete kit", there are always parts missing :angry2: How difficult is it to the do swap once all the parts are acquired? Anyone want to help me do the swap during the summer? :afro: haha. There is some guy selling a "complete kit" for 1500, but its missing the timing cover and several other parts...however, the eaton supposedly has a stage 4 port already..so i might get that and just collect the remaining parts. My only concern now is if this will pass smog =(

well i was dead set on a on3 before, but idk... i plan on auto crossing pretty often, and im not sure how well will the upr k member hold up and how will the car behave with the turbo boost while making turns haha. Also, does the car have good low end power? Cuz i know with the eaton it will make pretty good power down low which is ideal for autocross..

That's true, I haven't had issues with the k member but I have of upr cracking.
I didn't know you where gonna autocross so ya eaton should be better.

yeah. How does your upr k feel? What I really liked about it is that it saves a bunch of weight up front.. and now that I switched from my aluminum block to a cast iron one, i will try to lose some weight to make up for it =/. I should have just rebuilt my block. oh well. haha

Why didn't you just re-use your aluminum block?
regarding the eaton swap... to be honest why don't you just buy a nice centri blower setup for your year? Like a Vortech or Procharger etc...
Only reason I ask is because I've done it to the 01 Cobra and in the end you almost ended up paying the same amount of $$$ (used of course)
Either way let me just get home and I get a list up for you...

x2!! Yeah man, you're gonna spend a good amount of coin to swap an Eaton on! Obviously not impossible, but will be pricier then you think. Hit up Dave 32vlvr, he did it to his Mach. Sucker runs good and hard which is proof it can be done and will work, buy I'm sure he can really give you the low down as to how much it ended up costing him in the end.

Done the swap 6 times already on Mach's and NA cobras. Unless you can get the parts for cheap, I'd say avoid this project.
The parts lists I have seen on Mach1registry and svtperformance are both incomplete.
It is not for the faint of heart or light of wallet.

I got impatient and bought a built cast iron block =/. MMR 900. Didn't want to pay 700 extra for the aluminator block, so just stuck with the cast iron one. I did however, get all the other goodies they offer at a pretty good price haha.
I want to go eaton because well, it just sounds much better and the cool factor is x10 haha. Also, seems like the eaton would have much more power down low. When you gather that list, lmk :D

Well, my goal is to get the parts for cheap haha. I will be looking around for deals. Ill just take it slowly until I can gather everything. My goal is to hopefully stay below 2K in parts. There is some guy that sells a true complete kit for 2800. So that would be my last option. His kit contains every imaginable part, including the fuel components and gaskets :D

Depends on how much you want to make. One of my customers did an eaton conversion as he already had a built 01 motor with a KB but with the 6 rib setup and small blower he was seeing belt slip over 15 psi and couldn't make more power. Hence he had us do the 03/04 conversion and brought me a big KB (against my advice). A month later he was ordering a Whipple.
Greg probably remembers the guy as he tuned the car.

Yup =) Well for now, I plan on doing the eaton swap with a ported blower, hoping to make anywhere from 450-500 with a pulley swap. After that, I will first invest in a tranny, then beef up the IRS a bit, and either go KB or Whipple  but im not worrying about that right now, since the KB/Whipple won't be relevant till next year =). I just want to get this eaton swap by summer so I can take it autocrossing. Once I'm done with the car, I hope to be making between 600-700 RWHP......but thats a long time from now haha.

I used the existing harness from the 01 cobra. I would imagine you have to because it's different. Considering the cobra has 2 air temp sensors compared to regular cobra having only 1. I would check with Greg on that one

His car just has 1 IAT sensor, the terminator has 2. Just move his IAT wire to the map sensor on the terminator blower. You cant run 2 IAT on a 99-01 cobra

alright... so some things were added...looks like this will end up costing me roughly 4400 installed/tune. Will have a ported blower/tb/plenum. It will be set up to make around 500 RWHP. My biggest concern now is how long my t45 will last with that power =/. I guess as long as I baby it it should be good till I upgrade to a t56. things did add up pretty quickly..but I think I'm getting a hell of a deal. This is what will be included: Posi ported blower/tb/plenum, 90mm lighting MAF with MAFIA, LPF Heat exchanger, Intercooler Expansion tank, 60lb injectors, 04 cobra tank+KB BAP, Boost/Wideband/fuel pressure gauges, 2.76 pulley, JLT RAM air intake, and black billetflow snub idler.... not bad I would say =D. I just have one question right now.. the clutch that is in the t45 right now has about 45k miles..would it be wise to get a new one while everything is being swapped, or should i leave the stock one till the tranny blows/i upgrade to a t56 later in the fall haha

to answer his question I think you will be fine with your clutch now. As long as your not on the gas when your letting out the clutch its not going to wear that much faster with the blower. Its when you are on the gas and letting out the clutch that your going to see it wear fast.

alright guys, so i bought all the stuff already.... Paid 2850 for the whole kit including 03 cobra tank... Now my question is...to those that have done the swap already..how hard of a task is this? The guy at the shop said he would charge me 750 to install the kit, plus whatever his tuner charges me for the tune... I haven't done any big jobs or anything..mainly little things here and there like swapping fuel pump, replacing radiator, tune up..etc.. would it be too much of a hassle to do the job myself? And does anyone know of a "how to" or write up on doing the whole thing? I found several threads, but none of them were detailed..just very basic instructions.... or should i just avoid this and pay up 750 for the install? is 750 the normal rate for this job?

Wow 750 is a hell of a steal if he knows exactly what hes doing. Remember its not all swap the old and install the new parts. Check Mach1registry and there are quite a few writeups. If you have never done anything like this I would recommend taking it a professional.

I would just do everything at once to be honest. Less of a hassel since the motor is out. So get it done here in so*cal and take the car to Greg @ RET :D

I would recommend taking it to a one stop shop. If mark or Greg can handle everything from the swap to the tune. Take it to them. Not to 3 different shops...

I will say one thing, I cant even get close to the pricing your putting up. A custom dyno tune alone is $500. Do you live in NorCal? If not might want to think about the gas you will spend driving.

Yeah I live in NorCal. Well, for the most part haha. I am a student up here, but I will go down to socal to get my car repaired because thats where it is right now. I will do that next week in my spring break vacation. Once its over, I will drive back up here to school where I was planning on getting the swap done... So I guess the gas wouldn't really matter because I would have had to pay eitherway to get back up here to school LOL

realistically, most shops like RET or Sinergy will charge anywhere from 2-3k to install it. Then you add another $500 in your budget for missing parts because there will always be missing parts.
So at the end your looking at around 5-6k for the swap and tune.

Haha yeah, I wasn't expecting that much just for the swap =/. But I guess if it was that easy everyone would be doing it themselves. Ill keep my options open for now and see what would be the best choice

I will say going cheap on a project this big is going to cost you twice as much.
$750 may sound good but will it b quality work. U better hope he doesnt half azz it like another cobra swap I know of whos car cant hold any fluids at all.

Well its a performance shop in sacramento. I am paying him to do quality work, so I better hope he does the job correctly as expected otherwise I won't take the car back until its done right haha. It's not like I am paying some shady guy that will work on it at his garage or something LOL. So I'll see I guess. He seems like a legit guy. I was just hoping to get everything done at once, but it actually seems like that would end up costing more =/ I'm not trying to be cheap or anything, but I also don't want to over pay if I know someone else can do it for a fair price. I cheaped out once with a transmission job and ended up paying much more later. Fortunately there is a really good mechanic about 300 feet away from my house that does most of the jobs for a damn cheap price LOL. Too bad I didn't go directly to him the first time. He's the one doing the shortblock swap for 650. Last time he only charged me 150 for a tranny/clutch swap
