was the car a 6 cyl from the factory? or an original V8? I believe the motor was just rebuilt correct? And that was done by you? I know it needs body work but how are the floorpans? Any major rust areas? Also, is the headliner installed?
Thanks

it was a factory V8 car,
the numbers do not match the block, it was orininally a 289 but the rebuilders didnt do a very good job and it blew up on me when i got the car
so i put a 69 302, and did some work to it, the heads are ported a little bit,
head liner is CLEAN no rips no tears, there Was rust on the floor pans but i had my buddy, weld me up a couple pieces to fix that problem,
the trunk and doors(both) has some rust going through, very minimal and some surface rust around the wheel wells
i also rebuilt the transmission myself, and has less then 1000miles on the complete drive train

I would definately want to have a closer look at the rust areas. But I am certainly interested. I have just worked on too many of these things to be willing to start the rust game over again. But if its surface or easily cut out and replaced thats not a problem.

Correction
i believe it is a 8 inch rear end
not a nine
Correction
i believe it is a 8 inch rear end
not a nine
Where did the rear end come from? To the best of my knowledge, Ford only put a 9" on the V8 cars and the 7.xx" on the str8 six cars.
Edit: Better yet, does the rear end have a cover? If so, the cover will be BEHIND the rear end, i.e. trunk side. If it doesn't, then it has a center section which detaches from the rear end on the front of the rear end, i.e. under the back seat. If it's the latter, it's definately a 9" rear end. If it has a differential cover, it's either a six banger rear (which I would hope not since you did say it's an original 8 car), or someone modded an 8.8 rear for leaf springs...which I doubt.

that is a 8 inch rear end. i can tell just by looking at it.

dude, his car has an 8" rear end. not only can i tell just by looking at it mostly because i actually own a '66 myself. ;)
the 9" came on other cars of that year, but not the mustang, at least not the stock mustang anyway.

Just like dmark101, i can visually confirm that the rear end is a 8 inch..... My father owned a 66' Fastback from when i was born till i was 10 ;)
Anyways, bot the 9 inch and the 8 inch have the removable 3rd member....but the 9 inch looks ALOT bigger visually. Once you see a 9 inch, you know how big a 9 inch is.

This is also correct, ford put the 9 inch on the galaxy and other Full Size FoMoCo Cars.

thanks for the input,
i read the tag and it says that the gear ratio is 2.80
but i reallly think that is not right, because when driving on the freeway im at like
3k rpm going 65

mike, check out this site: http://www.mustangdecoder.com/
that'll help you figure out what you have back there for certain. ;)
i'll wager they're probably 2.73:1 gears.

its 2.80:1
:) but im not sure,
id have to pull the gears out, they just feel different,
Jack the rear end up. Rotate the tire one full revolution and count how many times the driveshaft turns.

2.80 GEARS, that's what my 66 has.
3k at 65-70 is right for a c4 trans, that's why I put a t5 in it
I can't believe the price that these classics are going for, even in this economy!!! I could barely get $2800 for my 86, and it had practically every aftermarket part in the books.
best of luck with the sale. Here is what you need to bring those rpm's down
