alright as most of you know i was sent to state ref a few months back. Lada lada lada lets skip the crap. car passed everything EXCEPT sound. WTF am i supposed to do here the car is BACK to BONE STOCK. Im talkin everything. Save for the wheels its the way Ford built it. Stock midpipe, stock intake, stock catback. Except gears but that has nothing to do with it as the test is done in neutral anways. So what the hell do i do now??? Its doing 100dbi bone stock. Exhaust equiptment is in perfect working order as it passed smog with FLYING COLORS (as the tester said) so the midpipe is fine. Catback was almost never used so that has little wear and tear. Wtf?
only thing i can think of is stuffing a set of baffles in each tailpipe. But thats bullshit. I have to modify a bone stock car to pass a test? Not looking for a freebee. I paid the piper and did all repairs. Just want a fuckin break here.....
fuck california
please mods remove any whoring. I seriously want this bullshit over with and dont want to have to read thru numerous unhelpful bullshit posts. Thanks
Dude, and I can vouch for the MAJOR quietness of your car. I had NO idea you were practically right next to me on Paramount just before you made your turn! Only reason I knew it was you was cause I was on teh interwebz on my phone (no I wasn't driving) and seen your car outta the corner of my eye! Only thing I can think of is, slap on two more mufflers on that bitch, or put some 2" tailpipes and see if that works :whoknows:

car must not exceed 95dbi. They test this by reving and holding the car at 4500RPM...

is there a judge you can see about the ticket? maybe take it to him and say the requirements of this shit are a bit unreasonable.
Rephrase it of course, but just explain to him that you have everything on that the car came with as new. And there is no way to quiet it any further...see what he says. Its worth a shot... not like you have shit to do all day.
Sorry bro...that one was too easy.

http://www.8thcivic.com/forums/california/143974-chp-bulletin-enforcement-exhaust-noise-systems.html
yes, 95db, as stated in the thread you posted....
"Sections 1030-1036, 13 CCR, were intended to be used by Licensed Muffler Certification Stations as a means of determining if an exhaust system met the requirements of the Muffler Certification Program (when those programs were operational). They specify testing procedures for motor vehicles exhaust noise alone (as opposed to total vehicle noise). This procedure specifies a limit of 95 dB(A) measured 20 inches from the exhaust pipe outlet with the engine operating in neutral, typically at a speed of 3000-5000 rpm. (For comparison, a modern rotary lawn mower with a 5 horsepower Briggs & Stratton engine typically emits approximately 93 dB(A) at the same distance at full speed under no load.) It applies only to passenger vehicles. It does not apply to motorcycles or to vehicles over 6000 pounds gross weight.

Well I'd keep trying for a court date.... unless you come across some baffles that will work for you.

i cant find any baffles for my size (2.25). Everythings 3 inches and up, wich makes sence because who would fucking need to make a stock car quieter :freak:
since im too lazy to type them all, just insert every swear word in every language known to man *here*

I know if it was done and ready to go they could just clear it but in this situation what can a clerk really do?
Unbolt the mufflers and stuff a shit load of coarse steel wool in there, just pack the shit it. That should make it quiet. Its worth a shot.

hmm, think itll work? given it a shot before??? I dont wanna choke up the motor, might as well stuff a patatoe in the tail pipe if ima do that. But it DOES sound like a good idea in theory and steel wool is cheap :look: . Ill look into it kyle.

No to steel wool. do yourself a quick experiment and get a lighter close to steel wool and see what happens POOF not heat resistant at all to thin. Those cones don't look to complicated I would imagine a bit of thinking at home depot would improvise something similar and cheaper

crap, sounded great and cheap in theory. doh!
Yes, thin steel wool can catch fire. Not COARSE steel wool like I posted. Use the shit that people scrub pans with. My buddy made a pipe for his CBR600, also made a silencer out of perforated stainless steel sheet and coarse steel wool it made a huge difference.
Looks like this

I don't know how soon you need to get tested again. But I'm gonna probably make some baffles for my tips because the LM1s are stupid loud. I can make another set if I have extra material.

Not talking about a clerk. Talking about going to the judge. If u notice its says on or before the date u will need to show up to court. You should just be able to go to the court room u r asssigned on any day and request to see the judge that day. They will pull ur file and call u when u r next.
Thats how they do it in downtown LA. Have done it plenty of times.

Your best bet would be to do what kevin stated. Hrlead down to the courthouse and request to talk to the judge. They will give you a date and just hold out til then and explain the situation to the judge. Tell them how they are measuring your exhaust decibals in a garage and that is causing you to not pass.
or you can fab up some type of baffle to quiet down

I cannot believe how many of you really believe that your going to find a judge in so cal that is going to look at the actual merits of the case be reasonable and rule against state law.................really? yeah thats going to happen

Craigslist some sort of mid pipe w/ cats, chop it up and weld them to yours. Even if its a 2" Honda system, it will choke the shit outta the car, but be quiet at least....

Whats the problem he has put the car back to stock from the factory as sold in Cali.
Now if a car straight from the factory that is sold in Cali cant past a ref test then the driver should not be held responsible and the case should be dismissed and brought against the company who sold the car.
Cuz right now Blanco is going to go against the law anyway by modifying his exhaust.

Traffic Courts in LA are busier on the days that they are open because the mayor voted to close them one day a week. This accounts for some of the extra flow.
As for bike light tickets.... Crackheads drive around all night on bikes shopping for crack. It is too much work to book them for the crack pipe when we don't find the crack, so those clumsy baseheads tend to drop them and accidently step on them. So they don't leave without a suvenier, they get a bike light ticket. Now... most baseheads will not take care of their tickets which often go to warrants. When they go crazy from bad crack or talk back to an Officer, they conveniently get booked on the warrants.
What's funnier than seeing someone fighting a bike light ticket in court, is actually seeing the crackhead with a flashlight taped to the handlebars. Or watching some juvenile wannabe gangster have to go to court for a no helmet ticket (while riding his stolen bmx bike). Oh yeah... the jaywalking tickets for Figueroa Hoes are nice to.

my dads boat had to use slide in baffles which were nothing more than little sleeves that slid up into the exhaust tips. they had little baffles welded into em and some holes. they worked extremely well for how simple they were.
something similar to this.
http://psndealer.com/dealersite/images/ec0410/1861-0468_400.jpg
i wouldnt doubt having a muffler shop weld something up that could just be slid into your tips and held in with a simple bolt would be super cheap. if they could quiet a blown 540 chevy motor, they could quiet a catted 4.6 fo sho. even most diesel trucks have built in baffles in the exhaust tips which most owners end up pounding out with a punch and hammer.
