i might be picking up a steeda tri-ax short throw shifter, but before i do, how hard is it to install? i'm a complete n00b when it comes to working on my car, but is it an easy install? if not, how much would the labor cost to have someone else install it for me? thanks

From what I understand, it's easier to install one from under the car. It's not exactly an "easy" install, but isnt one that's impossible to do at home with basic tools.

i haven't heard much about the steeda shifters but mgw are supposed to be really nice now that they revised the original design for the s197's.

as far as install i had mark do mine as i had to get the car on a lift to do it correctly

yeah well some guy back in NY is selling a used tri-ax for 125+ shipping... i originally wanted an MGW, but i had a friend with the tri-ax and it wasn't too bad. i just can't stand the shitty stock shifter anymore. maybe i'll hold off and try to find something local. thanks for the help guys

You dont need a lift to do it correctly. You only need to jack up the front driverz side and put a jack stand to hold in place. Loosen up a couple of bolts and bamb! Easy install. Only avfool pays a shop to install such an easy part...

Btw, i have a hurst shifter for sale if you want.

i couldn't stand the stock shifter once i went to the track a few times, i thought it was to blame for the bad shift notches but ended up being the stupid remote shifter not stayin inline.

thanks. i really don't understand why you go out of your way to be a blatant dick about petty shit.

Why the fuck you get so offended, if you don't like what he post look away. You need to learn to shut the fuck up.

the MGW2 is actually cheaper than 1.. i got a couple shift knobs so it costed me a bit more.. more it was only like 250 for the shifter ( no shift knob ) i made billions of threads and asked billions of people hurst vs mgw.. but the fact MGW doesnt reuse parts did it for me.. and the adjust ability..

There is absolutely nothing wrong with re-using parts so long as they function properly and dont cause a ptovlem doen the line or the part is design around the part to be re used....but hey you're an engineer so im sure you knew this...

i can use the stock shift knob with either one of the MGW's though, correct?

Apparently "Did it for me" must mean it has to do it for you too..

lol nick..

you can but i chose not to go with the feeling of stock.. different strokes though.. although you have to mention it to MGW or find one for the stock knob thread..

I did my hurst with the help of my mom  all you need is to Jack up the front and take a few bolts off, I also took off the center console to prevent from scratching it b very easy. In a scale of 1 to 10 I give it a 4. My 2 cents

---------- Post added 12-29-2010 at 02:54 PM ----------

Btw, all my mom did was help guided through and hold it while I tightend the screws :freak:
