View Full Version : Sinergy's entry into Formula D.

Kept it on the dl for a while now until it was official, but we have been working with for a while now, Team Cooper Tires and more specifically, their Mustang that has been competing in the Formula D events over the last two years.

Well we have been asked formally to crew this car and it's driver for the next season.

Tony Brakohiapa is her driver and one helluva guy. We are truly honored to be asked to take on this challenging task.

He is a seasoned driver with skills in many arenas. Check his website for all the info:
http://www.ashantiracing.com/

We will be getting the car ready for the next season and possibly a foray oversees as well.

Pretty much have to go through the entire thing and get things cleaned up, fixed and or replaced where necessary.

The motor is a Livernois shortblock and heads and the blower is a Saleen (not my first choice).

There are a couple of issues that popped up throughout the season with various parts so those will be addressed as well.

Making the full list right now actually. LOL.

Yeah, can't wait to tear into her.

The car is a dead solid platform. Weighs in at 3100lbs and revs to the stratosphere.

Hopefully before the new season we can score a sponsorship for a different blower as the saleen is starting to show it's age, not to mention I firmly believe that there is plenty of power left untapped.

As far as Derek, he'll be in soon, just hasn't gotten his daily dose of haterade down yet. LOL

Bumper was actually put back on it about 10 seconds after I shot that pic. Everything is "quick release" on the bodypanels as it is not uncommon for these cars to hit something during a race.

The paint scheme is to honor the Tuskegee airmen and as such has the same theme found on the Tuskegee P51 Mustangs. TCR (Top Cover Racing) is one of Tony's sponsors whose mission is to advance knowledge and pay tribute to those African-American airmen during WWII that served our country with pride.

Thank you again Derek for making sure all negatives are pointed out. Now go don your green bodypaint and santa costume. Your time of the year is here.

the huge e-brake is hydraulic inline with the rear brakes, has it's own m/c and everything, a lot easier to control and much more powerful than the cable e-brake.

cool. so what exactly is needed for a drift car? high rpms ALL the time? sounds like you'd build up a LOT of heat...

You pretty much nailed it. The science of building drag cars goes out the window for the most part when getting into drifting.

You want something with very predictable power so that is why in most cases turbos and centris aren't really seen. I know JR was having a lot of issues with his Novi back on the first car exactly for that reason.

High revs, flee flowing exhausts, high rev motors, high powerbands, low balanced weight, good gearing and DIALED suspensions and good compound tires are the formula for getting it done. (in a nutshell)

Um. You didn't bother to click on the link to his page, did you?

He was born in Ghana and raised in the States. Doesn't get more African and American than that.

And our relationship with Falken is still and always will be rock solid. They have done a lot for us over the years and we have done whatever we can for them whenever they have needed it. That won't change.

Tony is a privateer without much in the way of big sponsors. He does this mainly on his own dime and that is what is amazing about the results he has achieved.

what do they do with the oil pan? is it a wide sump with gates? id think doing a 80mph sliding turn would force all the oil away from teh pickup in a stock pan.

it was like $300 for the oil pan I put in my coupe, canton road race t-sump with baffles and check balls to keep the pickup always submerged. That's rookie stuff though, an external pump is usually used on higher powered race cars.

Well I know it is a big commitment and I am definitely a relative boob to the arena but I hope to do Tony proud.

I definitely have to thank you as you are the key player in making it happen for us.

Don't get me wrong, Ill do anything for the blue and teal but there is just something very striking to me and honorable about backing the underdog and I think Tony has a lot of talent and the right attitude to go far in the pro auto racing world.

Thanks for the welcome.

the huge e-brake is hydraulic inline with the rear brakes, has it's own m/c and everything, a lot easier to control and much more powerful than the cable e-brake.

yep, stunt drivers will often put those in their "mostly otherwise stock" cars for stunt driving as well (like for commercials or movies), cause alot of the time the stock e-brake won't even lock the wheels while it's in motion, and some drivers may not want a ratcheting handle.

Danny Swanson tuned it and it has been running on his tune the entire last season without any issues.

Unless the combo changes, I don't think we need to much there.

Now make sure you go report back the answer to your buddies so they have something to talk about tomorrow.

Nope. Very little on this car is stock and I mean VERY little.

Livernois Stage 3 5.0 stroker motor with S3 heads.

The thing is ungodly when it fires up. It is a 100% race car.

BTW, I still maintain that race fuel should be turned into cologne.

I understand what makes heads Stage I, II, III, etc, but what makes a shortblock a Stage III? Components used? Something like the Stage I, II get forged rods, mahle slugs and Stage III gets the billet Oliver rods and CP pistons?

has to do with what pistons and rods bearings used ect.
