Do you have a rough estimate of what it costs to have one rebuilt?

no idea, but if it were my truck I'd look into a used 4r100 to swap in instead, the 4r70w is the mustang trans and quite a bit weaker than the 4r100 that's in the lightnings/harley's/super duty's

Thats a stinkin good deal for a 4r100 and yes to both your comments.

Also would be a good idea to put a deep sump pan, oil cooler and if there is money left over a billet tq converter.

all that for what?

to have a semi-bulletproof transmission in a f150. its quite an upgrade even for my expedition and one that I am seriously considering especially with my 400 mile drive in the middle of the desert in very high heat towing a boat.

they even have deep pans with fins on em to help cooling. not sure about your truck but i think some of em with the "tow package" came with external coolers, while non tow packages plumb the tranny lines into a side cooler in the radiator. either way *ANYTHING* you can do to keep your fluid cool and clean with an auto tranny will save you a lot of money later on.

If you have the "in radiator" trans cooler, ditch it as fast as possible.

Too many times have I had to replace head gaskets because the trans lines get clogged creating a hot spot within the radiator and causing the radiator to fail, overheating the engine.

It is a piss poor design.

FRPP/F250 or B&M trans cooler and you are done.

4r100 needs the computer upgrade as well if you are planning on swapping over from the 4r70w......
