************I MENT HAVING A DRIVE BY WIRE ON THE S197*********While I know the issue with hesitation isnt new, the question I have is....... Is it possible to fix the issue with a new tune. It kinda bugs me, and takes away from some of the fun when driving it.

ive driven a few S197's now and i can say that i really feel bad for you cause of that drive by wire bs. I also had to push the gas pedal a good 2 inches before the damn thing realized i was on the gas. Totally sucked. Hope theres a fix or something. Do you guys really "get use" to that crap? I dont see what was so wrong with a good ol cable that made ford use more electronics that obviously suck

Relax, pal. I thought the way you originally worded it was correct. I don't really know exactly what it's called since I drive a fox. All I know is I drove a friend's S197 and did not like that feature at all.
You need some thicker skin, not everyone is out to get you.

because in a normal cable throttle everything computer wise is REACTIVE to the pedal. fuel, timing, ignition, transmission, etc... and its all delayed. you get less power and you get worse fuel consumption, its not as smooth, etc.
in a drive by wire system everything is PROACTIVE, meaning when you press the gas, the computer does everything all at the same time so everything is better. just throttle response isnt as great. from what i hear a tune can make it a lot better. i know my bosses old AMG c63 it was a HUUUUGE difference after he got a tune.
hell some cars are steering and brake by wire... using the engine rpms and abs/traction systems to help control the car... now THATS some scary shit.

A good tune will take that away. I know what your talking about. I ran a few of the bama chips tunes making that "lagging" feel go away

Makes sence.
Either way, the S197's arent getting much better if any MPG than me. Nor did they feel any faster or as fast (simular mods). So all that for nothing IMO....Just to sound/look "ahead of the game" tech wise :whoknows:
oh well, i guess ill eventually have to get use to it as well since my hearts set on a new GT these days

Mail order custom tunes like brendspeed. I believe you can get the tunes at american muscle .com you send them a list of mods they write u a tune and u uploaded to ur tuner then ur car. They used to be like 50 bucks I don't know what they are now

Another great thing about the s197 system is u don't have a cable that might and will snap and leave u stranded

LOL ive never seen a snapped throttle cable. nice try. how about a $200 electronic motor in the throttle body that *WILL* go bad at a moments notice without any signs of wear that will leave you stranded randomly at the worst possible moment. worst case with a cable you can tie it in a knot. you're fvcked if the little servo motor goes out on a s197.

there is absolutely no stress on a throttle cable that will result in a snapped one. Ive never seen nor heard of one snapped.
A clutch cable yes. Then again, if you know how to drive without using the clutch you shouldnt be stranded.

I stand corrected I was thinking about the clutch cable

eh i like the clutch cable setup. you can "feel" the clutch rather than just memorizing where your foot needs to be in relation to the car moving forward. some people with hydraulic clutches I cant even drive the damn thing its so fvcking sensitive. but if its a cable its cake.
plus its simple. got a bad cable? $100. u can even slap it in on the side of the road if you really needed to. replacing a slave cylinder for a hydraulic clutch setup? good luck. either way, you CAN get moving without a clutch.

no but you do have a servo which has burshs' that will wear down unless they use burshless motors for the servo.

ive never really spent enough time behind a s197 to really say "i like the sn95 better"... but have driven enough cars to know that I'm not a big fan of certain things. I like the control of the car to be MINE, not a computer, not a hydraulic setup, not some computer part that WILL go bad. Call me fred flintstone but worst case if I can put my yabba dabba doo feet down and stop my car or get it rolling, I'm happy.

sums up my views exactly. I don't need all the gadgets and doohickeys. Keep it simple is my motto.

Apparently vince's mustang doesnt have this problem. He even said so himself in the other thread.
But yeah. It does suck big time. I've lost my fair share of races due to the pos.
Another thing i hate i about the s197's is the hydrolic clutch.
Other than that, I would never go back to the new edge body style or older years.

A tune will get rid of all lag. DBW works just as good as a cable when tuned correctly.

In the years I have been doing this I have only had 2 throttle body failure issues and neither of them left the customer stranded.
On the flipside I have had countless situations where clutch cables have snapped, the most infamous one being Paula's that Ken and I swapped across from Biagios (lucky that Ken just happened to have one sitting in his trunk).
Aside from that, tune the car and lag goes away. There is just so much more adjustability with the "doohickeys" that if far outweighs the downsides of any such issues IMO.
