View Full Version : New Project at the shop: 89 LX with 03 Cobra motor
Got this car in last week. VERY badass. 89 LX coupe, 03/04 Cobra motor and trans, soild axle. We're putting in the factory engine harness, I'm porting the supercharger/plenum/throttle body, exterior polish in the blower and plenum. Also doing the interior, oh yes, the SN95 dash and console in a fox. I'm throwing in new carpet and HustMat in the interior. Also installing an AJE Kmember and tubular arms, removing the 4.10s in favor or either 3.73s or 3.55s, as it sits there is 0 traction.

Really dirty, first thing was give the underhood a bath, I hate dealing with wiring covered in oil and crap.

All clean for the most part, ready to start with the underhood project.

Supercharger, and intake manifold pulled out to be cleaned. Engine harness tagged and removed. Having the blower off made life easy to get all the wiring out.

This is what is being replaced in favor of the factory wiring. A very cool setup, unfortunetaly the owner is having problems with it not revving past 5200rpm.

I'm starting with everything under the hood first. Pull the old wiring and computer, install factory harness. Next would be the dash install, then on to exterior lights and interior. Final would be the kmember and ring and pinion.
So this is gonna be one huge deal. I'm pulling the supercharger apart tomorrow to begin porting along with the throttle body and plenum.

Hah, yeah he said he was tired of not being able to drive the car.
The owner is really cool, said that you tuned it and it was cutting out at 5200rpm, and you said best thing to do is rip the science project wiring and replace it with the factory parts. The guy came to the right place, good honest work without bullshitting him. No cutting corners or anything like that. So since the blower came off, he wanted it polished, and go ahead and have it ported too. I'll give him a call and recommed the EvenFlow cooling mod since I'm looking at an empty motor now. Next week I'll be able to start on the interior after the supercharger gets taken care of.
Greg I'd like to take my Mach over to your shop and do a before and after with a manifold spacer. I need to give you a call.

I'm glad this guy came to his senses in regard to the wiring. Since I stripped all the wiring out, and rewired my car with all 2004 electronics from Ford, I have had ZERO issues with my supercharged Eaton set-up. I wish I had the money from the very start to have done this during round one of my build up. At least now, I'm well placed to advise people on their projects. However, I can't tell you how many times I have heard "OMG! It's gonna cost that much?!!" The answer from me is always the same, you want to drive it don't you?

The biggest thing is good work isn't cheap, and cheap work isn't good. Theres been a few cars that came through our doors that have been 'tore up from the floor up' and been called good. I'm not saying we're expensive, actually very reasonable on price, but for what some shops charge I can't believe the crap work that they do.

So true, I always remember that black Camaro that was there. You guys had to sand through like 10 layers of paint to get to the bare metal:aaron:
