So as some of you may know, my TOB sometimes gives off a light squeal. Getting a new clutch assembly is on my list but I can't just afford it yet.

I heard that I can get a firewall adjuster to see if I can take away some slack and maybe tighten things up and take away the squeal. I figured this could be a good idea seeing that once I upgrade my clutch, I would want one anyway. I see the part is pretty cheap and I can afford it right away...

Is this something easy to install? Can it can be installed just by itself and work with all other stock components?

Do you guys think it will be worth trying to fix some of my probs?

Thanks

"tightening up the slack" will just wear your clutch out faster, much like riding with your foot resting on the clutch.

Start saving up for that new clutch.

So you're saying a firewall adjuster will do nothing good for me in the mean time?

That is correct sir.

Save for the new clutch and a good T.O. bearing. Wouldnt hurt to locate a good firewall adjuster and quadrant on ebay if you can find it.
I got my steeda adjuster for 15 bucks shipped.

yeah...yesterday i just found that extra one i was telling you about. ended up in a box with some of my old highschool stuff.

brandon, the firewall adjuster will make the noise go away but like blind said, it will wear out your clutch faster.

also, you cannot use the firewall adjuster with the stock quadrant, you will need to get that as well. both are a fairly easy install.

It may do more damage than good.

Either suck it up and deal with the squeak or see if you can lube up the TOB with some wd40 or equivalent.

What are you talking about?? Of course you can use a firewall adjuster with the stock quadrant, I'm running mine like that. If you can find some, buy an aerosol can of grease. Lift the car up, take the cable dust cover off and spray the inside of the TO as best as you can. If you can't find any bearing grease in an aersol can, then use regular heavy duty bearing grease and try to find yourself a very long screwdriver (anything long that isn't dirty) and do your best to get the grease in the TO bearing. Just remember, this is NOT a fix and is merely a band-aide to help get rid of the squeak. I did this to my Mach and my fucked up TO lasted me a year! It woulda lasted longer but Wally world stopped carrying the aerosol bearing grease.

if you drive for a long time with a bad TOB, you will need to replace the TOB retainer/input shaft sleeve deal on the front of the trans because it will become scratched / galled up and will damage the repalcement TOB's surface.
