View Full Version : Curb paint vs. Curb sign
I had just dropped my daughter off at school and was there about three to no more then five mins. Well as I'm sitting in my car watching my daughter walk to her class' line on the playground, parking enforcement pulls behind me and starts writing me up! I told her I had just dropped my daughter off and she tells me that it's a loading/unloading zone and I can't be parked there. There's NO paint on the curb, just a sign. On the LADOT site it refers to painted curbs (did a google search and it took me there, no mention about parking signs) and says that you cannot be parked on a white curb loading/unloading zone for more then five minutes, and this parking enforcement lady was already writing me up! Does curb paint matter or perhaps different then a sign?
I'm not sure if she got my whole plate but not my VIN (which I know doesn't really matter). If I get the ticket in the mail, is it possible that I can fight it? Or will I just have to bite my lip and pay the fine? Thanks!

I'm pretty sure this kind of ticket does not go to court, but you can fight it. If it gets mailed to you, their will be contact info on the back of the ticket. I've never heard a specific time like 5 minutes being specifically attributed to a color of paint... but then again, I do not write parking tickets (usually :asthanos:)....
Not being able to watch your child walk safely to the front door of school... really?
Yeah, that's exactly how I feel! Thanks for the quick reply Danny!

u can dispute parking citations, but just know that the state is broke so they arent giving any leeway (sp?).
a few months ago i dropped off supplies to my maintenance man and was pullled over alongside the curb for about 3-5 minutes. i didnt put my hazards on when i stepped outta the car to get stuff outta the trunk. well parking enforcement pulls behind me right as im pulling away. well they mailed me the ticket. turns out it was street cleaning day and me being pulled over to drop off stuff got me a $60 ticket. i tried to dispute it but no dice. i never even turned the car off, just got out for a few minutes and was always right next to the car.
Ouch! Sucks to hear Jose! I had thought about parking across the street, but it was street cleaning day on that side.

i had something similar happen to me when volunteering for red cross one of the parking enforcement guys gave me a ticket cause i parked in one of the campus lots with out a pass but had by "bloodmobile" thing in the window. anywho i wrote them a letter stating why i was parked there and what i was doing all day they wrote back and apalogized.

Just tell them that you were merely scoping out the potential poontang. They will understand and dismiss your ticket. ;)

on a serious note, my mom works with the city and this is her department so let me see what she says and recommends about handling this problem. :)
Sounds good to me Nick!

Any word on if you got the ticket or not? If no and you're unsure if you got the ticket, Text me the license plate of the car and i'll have someone look it up.
From what i've gathered is that you can contest it. Take pictures of where you were dropping off your daughter, the curb, etc.

I have always wondered the difference between "No Stopping" & "No Parking".
My take was No Stopping is exactly that.
But that No Parking, meant you could stop, not leave the vehicle, and maybe not turn off the motor....anyone????
Nothing yet, but then again, I think my car's registered address is my parent's place in East LA (a few years ago my wife, kids and I were supposed to move into the back house of my parents' property, which is why I registered my car with that addy...but we never ended up moving in).
