So how does it work? I'm guessing this is different from the machines the put on the side of the road that takes a pic of your license plate if it detects something and sends you a ref ticket in the mail?

Can you refuse the check on the spot and take a ref ticket instead? so you have time to swap shit out?

I went through one of the on-ramp smog test setups once in the Mustang. never got a notification of any kind. :whoknows:

However, I just got my registration renewal in the mail and it's time for another smog test. Looks like I'll be putting the stock H-pipe back on.

Yes but this measure is meant to force the manufacturers to increase their CAFE rating by raising average MPG for their products and increase efficiencies in order to reduce emissions.

I didnt see any sniff machine I just saw a cop looking at cars and pointing them out. By the time I went by they made some old honda stop and put it on the rollers.

Because... every cop is stuck doing this, right? Oh I'm sorry, maybe you'd instead like them to predict the next crime so they can be in the right spot at the right time. Did it ever occur to you they may be checking for valid D/L's, insurance, and registration at the same time, therefore cleaning up our roads and getting worthless trash off of them that only serve to drive up all of our insurance costs and tax costs as well? Perhaps we should never be pulled over for speeding or running red lights because cops could be doing more important things like catching murderers and theives and rapists.


If you decide to break the law, don't complain because someone's trying to enforce it. Take the medicine and then decide whether the means justify the ends.
