So wait, you are telling me that no other company has ripped off a design from another? You are as clueless as a horse.
Every company in one way has "stolen/ripped off" a design from another company but the only difference is that they change design by maybe a measly 10% or so so they dont get any law pursuits on them by the company they took it from...
You do know that weld is a filler, right?
Welds are and will always be the weakest point of anything. So it's no suprise that the welds were cracking. Also, keep in mind that the welds are holding hundreds and hundres of pounds of the car...
Put it this way: if you weld 2 half inch rods together in the middle to make one piece and you bend it or you put alot of pressure/force on it, the weld will be the first thing to start cracking off and break.
Weld is a filler????
Dude... are you serious?
Maybe you need to learn how to adjust your wire feed and or/amperage as a proper weld does not sit on the surface but penetrates the metal surface and actually bonds the two metals together on a molecular level. If you are a noob at welding and/or your equipment is not functioning properly you will only get a bead on the surface which to the unknowing eye might make you think it is welded but in fact that WILL be the weakest point as you have no penetration.
I have to concur with Eric here, please don't speak about things you obviously don't know much about.
Kind of scares me that you work in a metal shop and can say something so wrong.

they built a tubular structure (kind of like a tubular table) on one of my shows and welded every point...then dropped it from like a 5 story building...then proceeded to drop heavier and heavier items on it, including massive cinder blocks...the welds were not the first thing to break.

Youre right on that but if you want to properly weld, you dont use a danm wire(MIG) feed for that shit as that is not going to penetrate enough...
The proper way to penatrate the metal would be to bevel the two pieces of metal and TIG weld both pieces.
anyways, what do i know. Im just talking out of my ass even though my proffesion is metal work and welding. Who cares if i've had over 25 years of experiance passed down to me. Who cares about my certification in welding...
And yes Mark. Weld is a filler.
Read up on it.
But yeah, you and Eric must be welders and you guys know it all. I guess just cause anyone can pick up a MIG welder then that makes them a welder. FYI. MIG is the easist type of welding...
BTW, im not saying that i may be 100% right but that im speaking from experiance
Anyways...im out. I dont have time to argue over the internets. If you have any question about welding, please come down to my shop and i will school. I will show you my quality and that i can outweld anyone on here.

So let me get this straight:
1, You are not 100% sure but you are schooling.
2, You "dont want to argue" aka don't want to be called out and proven to be a knowitall that truly knows nothing so you rather turn tail and run. (fine by me for that matter).
Nick I will GLADLY take the pepsi challenge and toss either of my two welders into the ring with you as I have seen both their work, in fact so has some of LAMC. I really couldn't give a hoot about what you are certified in as my boys do it for a living just about every day and what is coming out of your mouth sounds more to me like tidbits you heard from your daddy at the dinner table and around his shop than your actual "experience".
Quit riding on the coat tails of your fathers business and show me the money. I want to see something you actually have done as everything you claim seems to not be the case.

Yeah, Ryan has come a LONG way when it comes to welding. His most recent version of the side exhuast baffled housings I would put up with just about ANY exhaust manufacturers pieces. All hand measured, cut, fabricated and welded. And even he will admit he still has a long way to go before coming into Marty's realm.

I am sorry but if your guys are not certified then they aren't real welders. Welding exhaust pipes are nothing to a true welder. And if they are truly good welders then there is no reason not to get certified. That right there tells me they are not real welders. And to bring up MIG as an example of there skills is pretty funny. I have seen my friend that used to be a welder weld two razor blades together and cut a beer can in half and reweld it. And he hasn't worked as a welder in 20 years. And when you weld you are heating up the metal to weld causing it to be weaker than it was before. Even with the proper pentration. And you know the rod you use in gas/Tig/Arc is actually called FILLER rod right? It does the same purpose as the wire feed in MIG. And if you don't use FILLER like in a butt joint then it actually under cuts the sides of the base metal to fill the weld

2, The example of exhaust pipes was brought up by Damon, not me. That job accounts for about 1% of the skill set he applies on a daily basis.

2.I dont want to argue over the internet because why do that when i can do it in person hence the reason i said to come on down to my shop.

Yeah dude I must know nothing and only speak from my dad's experiance even though i am the shop foreman....
My skills in what i do are superb and if you dont believe me then allow me to post up some picture tomorrow of some of the jobs i am working on.
Your "boys" may do that for a living but that doesn't mean that they are good in welding. Ive had many people tell me that they weld for a living and when i put them up to the test they couldnt for shit. Let me ask you this - what kind of welding do your boys do?
The only person to not know anything about welding is you. You proved it with this post:↓↓↓↓
Weld is a filler????
You didnt even know that weld is a filler. It is a filler and was even backed up with this post: http://www.lamustangclub.com/forums/showpost.php?p=49872&postcount=31
Still dont believe me? go grab a welding book and read it. That is one of the most inportant things you learn when welding.
Maybe you need to learn how to adjust your wire feed and or/amperage as a proper weld does not sit on the surface but penetrates the metal surface and actually bonds the two metals together on a molecular level. lol. The bolded does not apply to MIG
Anyone that knows welding knows that if you want to get a good penetration then you dont use MIG (wire feed). Why is that? MIG feeds the wire wire over the metal and layers over it. As said earlier in one of my post, For good penetration you will need to used TIG since it heats up the butt ends of the metal causing them to fuse together and adds the filler rod over it.
The only way MIG welding has a chance on penetrating good is when you are working with a minimum of 3/16" thick material and you bevel the butt ends of the 2 pieces so you can fill it in with the weld.

Well I would assume you would have to know something otherwise I don't know what use you would be around your dad's shop, other than that I only have the dumb shit you have posted up on here to go off which seriously calls into question what you do know about it, but your welding skills (or lackthereof) are a topic in another thread.
FYI, to give you some insight of what i do at the shop:
There are 2 foremen in the shop. I am one of them. Not only do i run the shop but i also do custom fabrication which ranges from shearing, punching, break pressing, rolling, forming, weld3ring, and polishing. Aside from that I also do teh CAD drawings and go out and take measurements.

Oh boy. You still have a lot to learn young grasshopper.
"Heating up metal weakens it" is about the vaguest (and as a result incorrect) statement in this thread. One of the main differences between the two (MIG/TIG) is that you can vary the heat on TIG, but the "weakening" only occurs when you have too much amperage and overheat the metal.
That is an issue of inexperience and inability to evaluate the material. Furthermore please show me the data and math on what constitutes "weakening" ie: shearing forces applied = to failure.
Welding exhaust is simple. Welding a floorpan on a car is not so simple. Welding a rusted floorpan is even harder. Welding boron steel is infinately harder. See where I am going with this?
I think the about two dozen cars or so that have had welding work done by us on LAMC from Marcello, Daniel, Tess, Kevin, Jeff, etc, etc, can speak for themselves when it comes to expertise and proficiency of my staff.
I am sure you have learned a lot around your dads shop and I am sure there are things you are good at but so far, for all the jaw wagging you have done since I have known you the only thing I have known you to weld was your antenna. Prove me wrong. Please, do so as I am sure you are great and all but so far what has come out of your mouth sounds more like regurgitated half truths to cover up some of the stupid statements that you have been called out not only by me on.
A little humility and humbleness might be a good recipe for you as we do not claim to be the end all be all, far from it, but at the end of the day, people pay us to work on their projects and so far we have had ZERO issues with anything either of my two have fabricated and/or welded, be it MIG/TIG or otherwise.
