the majority of tire shines i have used always is all goopy and gets all over the car once i start driving. so after a car wash and a quick ride, i find myself cleaning off the tire shine...i need one that wont spray all over the place once the wheels are moving...
what do u guys use?

i know people are all "dont use armorall or anything silacone based!!!" but i've been using the armoral tire gel. its a gel and applies with a sponge so no over spray or tire spray on fenders.

why do they say no armorall?
and also when u use that product, does it get slung all over the place when u start driving?

cause armor all is said to over dry rubbers and plastics after it dries.
it does not sling it onto the tires cause you're only putting on what you need theres no extra.

The only thing that works for me is to put the gel or spray on the night before or a few hours before I drive the car. I tend to use the aerosol cans with the pinpoint type nozzles then just put a few coats from a real close distance. Then just let it sit. Driving off too early slings just about anything.

Either "grape jelly" (Meguiars tire gel)
OR
Meguiars NXT tire shine spray.
Both, when used properly give the tires a slick black wet look and won't sling everywhere.
Nor will they seal the tires so they can not breath and over time, turn them brown like armorall and other products that have silicone or similar to silicone sealants in them.

So that's why my old tires were brown. Good to know.
I used to use Armorall, but now I use Nexgen Shine It On tire shine. It's a spray that sticks to the tire and doesn't run or glob up.

a good way to get the new tire look is to take a belt sander to your sidewalls with some water, just remove that old nasty outer rubber and expose the clean new rubber underneath.

old thread I know.. but I recently bought some stuff from chemical guys and among that was the v.r.t. dressing. Put it on all the trim and decided to through it on the tires too... I'm really impressed. Very universal for just about anything that's not painted. More of a low sheen which I prefer. Tire's look tits and no sling...

Nice, that was my first order from chemical guys and overall I'm pretty content. Citrus wash and gloss is amazing, and their leather cleaner and conditioner seemed to work very well. Sure, there's a lot of hype on the website but their stuff is very nice and reasonably priced. Also bought some microfibers that are probably the best I've ever used.

I always use Meguiars Vinyl Conditioner. It doesn't leave residue, doesn't splatter since you just need a light mist and I even use it on suspension.
Altough I use it all over the vehicles on all plastic parts, the tires get a very nice shine without the greasy look, and no splatter!
Check out the suspension with that spray my 08 F150. This pic was taken at 20k miles. Just give it a light spray and walk away.

you might want to try Napa Auto Parts. Otherwise you can also try http://www.detailing.com/store/brands/meguiars/product-lines/meguiars-mirror-glaze.html?p=2&SID=3f98e511898a9ab8bead840f06c699b2

I also believe Smart gel is made by Chemical Guys who is based out of So-Cal this company offers an excellent array of detailing products.

Another good tip is to make sure you scrub your tires to remove old rubber, tire dressing, grease. Use a dedicated stiff bristle tire brush along with your favorite all purpose cleaner or dedicated tire cleaner. I use simple green diluted. This procedure will allow your tire dressing of choice to bond better and offer an overall better shine on the tire surface. Happy detailing!!!

You are the man George. Woe to those who don't know what a difference something as simple as this makes.

I use to use the multi-purpose armor-all cleaner after scrubbing the tires good with regular car wash. The multi-purpose cleaner doesn't really make tires super shiny, but cleans them and keeps them a nice dark black. A little bit of shine, but not alot like some of the other products.
I did this on my old truck (that I always kept nice and clean!) I don't do it on my mustang much, otherwise I'd be doing it all the time, don't have time for that. lol :-D

I just use Sheldons sweat on my tires. After i'm done with it the tires are darker than black and the car looks like its riding on steelies. :look:
