View Full Version : Saw a new Camaro at Felix

I stopped with a buddy at Felix to see the new Camaro. He's been waiting like everyone else to buy one, but hasn't been sure about the car since he never saw one up close. Felix only had one Red V-six in the showroom. Personally, too red for me.
As of now.... he will not be buying one, since even in this terrible economy, they are marking up this V-sux by $10K. $38K for a V-sux was the final sticker price.... HELL NO!!!!

$28K still seems high for a V-six... Am I missing something? Is this car really worth that kind of price? I was thinking they should be around $21-22K for the V-six

Lets compare apples to apples Mario.
The 4.6 puts out 15 more hp (sad that it is only that, but oh well. Gotta wait for the 400hp coyote engine.)
And even though there is only a 15 horse difference the v6 slowmaro is a good 2 seconds slower in the quarter than a stock s197.
And seeing as how you can STILL buy 08/09 GT's brand new for just around 20k, a 28k v6 is not exactly appetizing and for 38 is a bad joke.

Not everything has to be compared to in straight line numbers.I was just saying i think its pretty impressive that V6 is making that number as opposed to the mustangs V6. Yeah its great the Mustang has FINALLY broke the 300HP mark with the same dated 16 year old 4.6 that came about first in the Mark VIII and then T bird. Im a big Ford fan like the next guy and LIKE my 06', but Ford is and always will be behind Chevy as far as engineering.

Chris kinda has a point there Kev. I mean in theory that would be an unbeatable package. But sadly I doubt we will see one ever sold like that. I really think the dealerships needs to watch their shit on how hard the push those premiums. In this economy people will turn off quickly. And if the camaro has actually taught us anything in the past its that enthusiast sales are not enough to keep a car alive. They need to sell the 6's like hotcakes to justify the big dogs. And they simply wont with those numbers.

Ryan kinda has a point there Kev. We're gonna have to wait @ least a year or two before the mark-ups go away and THEN we can see what they are rally offered @.... When the 05 mustang came out it was marked up for a year and a half....

I just hope the dealerships recognize what a thin veil is holding there market bas right now. I really dont think it will take much for them to turn off customers. And I think that would be sad quite frankly. Im excited the new Challenger and Camaro are out. Competition should give us a better pony car!

Remember we went though all this with Jeff before the board crashed?
So now we are considering the markups too? Even though they vary from dealer to dealer?
How can you do that? None of the auto writers consider markups even though they acknowledge that they exist.....

when u get your camaro ss with 425hp and IRS, etc etc, for 31k, then u can tell us whats what....until then, u are just speculating as to pricing, regardless of what u say MSRP is.....
as for that v6 camaro goin for 38k, that is a fact as its on a showroom floor and you can go see for yourself. so like i said, until u bring one home or someone can show me a SS camaro being sold at 31k, then im sorry, i will stick to my "better valued, beloved" mustang.

right now, I would expect the prices to be pretty high! Bringing back an older model car, much anticipated, few available, I've got no doubt that the prices will stay high for the first 1/2 or even longer! After the initial bang goes away, I bet the prices will settle down to what they should be. I don't think you can compare the prices you see right now to the prices that they will settle down to. With the markups and all.
However, I do think that the base prices that are assigned are a bit to high, when you look at how the mustang is priced. But I don't think the comparison can be perfect, since you're getting "more" car with the Camaro, LS engine, IRS, 6 speed, and so on.

I'm not speculating... My sis works for GM corporate and if I were so inclined I could get an SS for less than 28k. But thats another story....
MSRP for an SS starts at 30,995. Fact. Just like the G8 GT....same number.
And there are plenty of dealers that will sell at MSRP...
So long as you're willing to place an order, put down a deposit and fill out the paperwork.
A single, lower option car that has been sighted at a dealership with a random markup cannot refute the pricing set by GM. Period.
Thats like saying all GT500s sell at over 50k now because there are still dealers with 10k+ markups....

Factory order is the only way to go on a car thats highly anticipated like this... that way you not only get exactly the options and color you want, you dont have every swingin' dick yahoo that comes into the dealership sitting in your car before you do since they usually will rope it off if its inside the showroom, or leave it out back in a secured area (well thats what they are supposed to do...).
And when you place an order, delivery price is discussed right then... if they insist on sticking a markup on it at that point you can simply walk. Its the perfect crime.

Some people dont give a shit about going fast...
A similar argument I heard recently was about the 6 cyl G8 v. the G8 GT...the 6 cyl. gets like 24 mpg or something like that.... the GT gets like 2 mpg less. And the question was asked, well why get the V6 when most, if not all the same options are available otherwise.
Some people dont care about getting the LS motor in that car... they just like the car.
M.Dest.B
05-05-2009, 03:53 PM
thats some but i doubt its the majority. but i think its more of a mix.... ppl that dont know wsup, ppl that dont care its only a v6, GM nutswingers....
who buys a 30 thousand dollar car, waits X amount of time for the new camaro, and doesnt give a **** about going fast?
and u mentioned the G8... thats a nice car... imma go look @ next years line... oh wait.... :look:
5litrarag
05-05-2009, 04:06 PM
If most people cared about going fast there wouldnt be a lower model Camaro or G8 or whatever.
And the lower model would not outsell the upper model. Ever.
Fact is, most people think of cars as just a tool to get them from point A to point B.
Thats why Honda and Toyota rule the sales rankings with their boring, plain vanilla cars.

I do not believe that ordering the car will do you any favors as far as getting around the markup. They are going to charge you whatever they want to anyways. You are still buying from that dealer not from GM. When I ordered mine. I had to put a grand down for them to submit the build sheet. Then that just got rolled into my DP. Anyways, point is that most dealers would prefer you to buy from their inventory. I screwed buerge on both ends on that one. Custom order and x plan. BOOOOO_YA brought my own financing as well. ;) Nice folks over there though. They were cool about it.

3 main reasons I can see someone buying a V6 (well, possibly 4 reasons)
1. those who don't care about performance or know anything about cars, "non-car person" but I want a mustang/camaro because maybe they like how it looks, or maybe their father had one years back. Think secretary or moms/dads who just want the car.
2. those who want a mustang/camaro, but can't afford (or are unwilling to pay) the extra for the bigger motor, and settle for the V6. (upfront cost, as well as possibly insurance cost)
3. those (parents/family) who give someone else the car (young drivers) and don't want them having the extra power of the bigger motors to try and keep them out of trouble.
and possibly 4. those who want the smaller motor for better fuel economy. Though I can't really understand that, since if you want fuel economy, you don't buy a muscle car :)
Or a mix of all 4. :keke:

Ebay BIN prices are hardly a guide. I see prices on there all the time that are way higher than what they should be. Even stuff that you can walk over to a store and buy right now, for cheaper than the BIN price on ebay. Not saying you can get an SS for less than 47 right now, but that's why it's on ebay, cause someone wants to make some money trying to sell one of the first ones to someone who doesn't want to wait for an ordered one.

I saw a couple of new Camaros in Glendale today. The 1st one was on Brand Blvd close to Star Ford (Black car, not sure if it was sold or on a test drive) and the 2nd was in the showroom at Allen Gwynn Chevrolet.
The car in the showroom was a red v-6 with a sticker price of $30,000 and a $7,000 markup, $37,000 asking price.
The car looks nice in person, better then the pictures we have all seen.
