View Full Version : SD cruise?

who's interested?

the route would start at the olympic training center, run through the back country up to julian, then to palomar mountain, ending in temecula. sean did this with me last year and he can tell you how fun the drive was. it's scheduled for next saturday, the 15th.

i'm skeptical about posting this, since the last cruises/meets i've posted had low attendance, for whatever reason. if you want to come, great, post up.

if not, no need to post. kthxbai. :fredo:

Count me in. That has to be one of the more beautiful and twisty built routes out there.

my first post says the start is the olympic training center. it's in chula vista. i'm not at home right now, so i don't have the exact address, but it can't be that hard to google it and look it up. ;)

the start time is roughly 10:00am on the 15th.

in fact, here's the itinerary, in PDF format: Itinerary (http://www.scpoc.com/web/SCPOC_TOR_2009.pdf)

this shows the cruise, turn-by-turn, the starting point and the ending point. any rest breaks will be coordinated en route.

i've already had to remove one "no" reply. please, if you are NOT coming, DO NOT POST. maybes are acceptable to a point.

Do you guys haul ass? My car handles good for a 4000 lb barge, but its no slot car. Will I be on a 1 car mopar cruise and catch up with you guys at the stops? Or do you guys just "cruise"?

no, we don't "haul ass", but by the same token, we don't drive at a snail's pace either.

sean can tell you. i had us at a pretty good pace. :)

All day.

I have been on this at least 2 times. The 1st time I drove my Taurus and the 2nd time I rode with Sean.

Since most folks here (respect to the exception)

A, don't have the suspension or brakes to handle the twisties.

B, Don't know HOW to drive fast and safe in the twisties

It will probably be a casual jaunt.

sigh... last time I took that road was in the Angel. In that case it was a one car V6 cruise and the V8's played catchup on the straights.

BondoSHO

it was the most fun I have had in a long time. It is literally a cruise, it's not a snails pace either (I was taking some turns so hard, fuel was coming out of my filler breather. anyway, I hope I can make it!

My Taurus with regular brakes and suspension handled fine.

i was also on that cruise and i intentionally stayed in the rear, since i knew the route well and wanted to actually enjoy the drive and catch the scenery. where we ate in julian was a nice little rustic place. :)

These roads are very "technical". Be careful! By the end of the day, you will be totally exhausted.

The engineers rd-pine hills and grad rd look to be the worst sections

engineers road is probably the best part of the cruise.

but the run up the back way to palomar is nice as well. i tried to mix things up when i put this together a few years ago. :)

Palomar road was extremely fun. The banked 180 that goes around the hill, then dips down a bit and then goes into a hard right is .
