View Full Version : Finally get my s/c 2000 GT back from Greg at RET....

Hadn't driven the stang since January, decided to upgrade the s/c (intercooler, up the boost, injectors, pump, bypass, tune, etc) over tax season since I'd just be working all day anyhow... Pull her apart in January, start some of the work myself, then had it towed to RET to wrap everything up.

Finally get out there on Friday and after some issues finding the right sized belt, they get me out and back on the road :rollin: Go grab some dinner with a buddy, and head back to West LA... then the unthinkable happens.

http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u189/tc535i/mustang%20wreck/Picture012.jpg

I'm headed back to my house on the 10 and right around the La Brea exit something happens. Since the accident resulted in a concussion/amnesia, I really can't remember how it all went down... all I remember is suddenly I'm backwards facing traffic, heading backward down the 10 sliding across lanes, and slam into the median. :red: Dunno if I got jacked PIT-maneuver style, lost a wheel (rear right was apparantly unrecovered from the scene), diff locked, etc etc... who knows. All I remember is going sideways suddenly across 4 lanes of freeway traffic and pounding the pass side into the median... next thing I know I'm in a hospital bed with a neck brace and all my clothes have been carefully sliced in half and piled next to my bed.

Either way, I spent the remainder of the weekend in Cedars Sinai intensive care unit, then to spinal trauma. Final count according to docs is

* chipped/fractured C1 vertibrae (the important one up top by your head that lets you breathe and stuff)
* bruised/some internal bleeding on spleen
* 3 cracked ribs and 10% air pocket in right lung

those are the 3 issues I'll have to watch for the next 2 wks-2 months

on top of that, some facial injuries, a nice bruise on my back, "open book" pelvis which will go back once internal bleeding/swelling on intestines lessens, and the concussion/amnesia. Luckily no nervous system damage, still have 100% movement/feeling in ALL my appendages. I'm gonna tell everybody I fucked some MMA fighter's girlfriend by accident and got my ass beat or something, it's a much better story I think :afro:

anyways, here's the rest of the pics... they were taken in the tow yard that had my car sardined in with the rest of em, so no way to get a good picture of the damaged side since it was so close to the next car (a van that'd rolled, fatalities) Towing it to my buddy's farm to part out, hopefully they can get better pictures of the damage.

http://i168.photobucket.com/albums/u189/tc535i/mustang%20wreck/Picture028.jpg

I'm recovering, it's really a miracle that I'm doing as well as I am... but I'm absolutely devistated, and after all the extra work I hadn't fully insured it yet (still liability-only), so I'm shit-outta-luck to the tune of prolly $15k on this thing

Oh well, at least I still have my good looks to get me through!

Whoa! Hope nothing serious happened to you, hope ya get back soon!

Were you ever able to get ahold of the police report, to see what they thought happened, and how many other cars were involved?

cops wont talk to me until they get the report issued, which is 8-10 business days according to chp

as of this time I don't think anybody else was involved (that they know about anyways, unless it was hit & run)

count your blessings...and take it slow.

I'm truly blessed to be able to even post this, docs in ICU were absolutely amazed at the relative insignifiance of my injuries and the fact that I was discharged from the hospital within 72 hrs with nothing but an Aspen collar. When I came in Friday night I was in really bad shape, no color, swollen everywhere, etc... to walking out of my own accord, and having injuries that will all likely heal themselves.

When they were discharging me, a doctor came up and told me I was doing incredibly well, couldn't believe I was the same person he saw Friday night... I just looked back at the guy and said "Thanks... but I don't even know who you are. :red:" I guess he'd attended to me when they rolled me in, I was so doped up on morphine the first 36 hrs

Hardest part is gonna be the wait for recovery, I'm not one to just sit around... but I really have to, I guess.

The only thing wrong with it was it would kick back and forth when I let off throttle... I really dunno wtf happened tho, as far as I can figure out I was just driving down the freeway :red:

Wow dude, we're glad you're alive!!

Wishing you the best man.thanks, the influx of well-wishes from friends has been phenomenal the past few days, and I'm really doing very well, all things considered

Glad your ok mang. Does that pelvic injury you mention mean that it spread open? Ouch. :eyes:

Yeah, I guess the pelvis is split up front and held tight with tendons or something as they explained it... the tendons loosen up in women for childbirth, etc; in my case it let it open a bit to relieve some of the pressure from intesinal swelling.

Supposed to go back to normal once it subsides, otherwise they said I may have issues with hip alignment, lower back problems, etc... so we'll see how that goes

nah, we'd already eaten and I was heading home... thank god

surprisingly the pass. cabin space was relatively uninvaded tho, besides the impact injuries I don't think a passenger would have been hurt any worse than I.

Good to know you are ok. I am taking it there was no passenger in the car, right??

That would have been bad news.

Just take it easy and relax.
