Angeles Crest Cruise

any ideas as to when anyone wants to do this? i went today and all of 2 hwy (angeles crest) going towards the 138 hwy is open. it was an awesome drive and took me about 4 hours to reach hwy 138 and back to pasadena

Sergio. what you need to do is have a set date for the cruise...maybe set it up for it to be in a month or so for people could be well aware of it and you can get a good amount of interest.

because the last time i set up a cruise and invited this group, people flaked and did something else. :shrug:

it was fun driving the full stretch of highway for the first time in nearly 4 years. the new bridge looks pretty cool and the road is freshly paved. the only thing that was a drag were all the rocks on the road, but that's normal for that particular section of ACH.

if you do it for next sunday, the 19th, i'll definitely be there. :)

If you just pick a date people can plan early, no use in asking for peoples agenda when we can just have a date picked and people can plan around that with enough notice. If people can show, then they will pencil them selves for the cruise or they are SOL. I noticed this in another thread where people were asking and asking and asking by the time the date came up, it was almost as if little or no one showed.

if you have more than 5 cars, that shell is a bad idea. there will be NO place to park because it gets jammed in there with people heading up into the mountains.

it's a 60-mile cruise through the full length of the road. if you have half a tank, you should be able to make it just fine, unless your mileage sucks. i would recommend fueling up BEFORE heading over to the meet location.

that depends on what you want to do.

cruising back would be cool, but that might be too taxing for some drivers. taking 138 to the 14 would take almost as long as taking the 2 all the way back. going to the 15 would take you to either the 10 or 210, and of course there are places to stop and chill out in the ontario area if you head that way. ;)

i do remember we did a cruise that way before, where we took angeles crest, and ended up in palmdale, then ate out there and cruised back on the 14 to the 5 it was fun, but i'd rather do something different. I'd go 2 --> 138-->15--> 210 then everyone can head home, but that could be pretty tiring for some people. Are there any good resteraunts with a view up on that road (the 2)?

OK, so i google maped what i prefered and its 90 Miles of driving from, Angeles Crest Highway and all the way to check point of 15 & 210 Ending( 90 Miles in between ) then how ever many miles it is to split your own way home on the 210.

the ONLY place to stop and eat on ACH is newcomb's ranch. the problem with that will be the amount of bikes there at any given time, which can take up a lot of parking space; otherwise, there is enough parking to suit 10-15 cars without too many problems.

yeah, i had the route at about 90 miles from the start of ACH to the 15/210. like i said, there are plenty of places to stop and eat around that intersection. there are two in-n-outs within shouting distance, victoria gardens, and restaurants around ontario mills. just gotta pick one with decent enough parking, since that entire area tends to get a little crowded on weekends.

when i did my cruise, we ate at the in-n-out off milliken. there is an outback along the same stretch of road that has plenty of parking available, if that's what people want. :)

so yea it is this sunday at 11am. meet at 310 Harvey Dr, Glendale, CA (in n out) @ 10:30 and we'll head over to 4522 Angeles Crest Hwy, La Canada Flintridge, CA (plaza) @ 11. i will try to bring atleast 2 walkie talkies but if anyone else has any bring them just in case. i dont think anyone will get lost up there but if it happens or if someone gets stuck behind a slow car we can pull over somewhere if possible

let's remember, this is a CRUISE, not a race. the speed limit on ACH is 55 and in a lot of those turns, that is plenty fast for even an experienced driver. ;)

Had to cut out, due to mechanical issues. Something to do with either the power steering, transmission or ESP. Limped it home and it has been fine, but the tranny is making an odd clicking sound. So, who knows what is going on.

It was beeping and clicking and stuff. I felt like my steering was going to go "bye bye". It was pretty scary to me.

Hey, it was nice of Sean to look after me. That is what members are supposed to do. I don't think anyone ahead of me would have known what happened, so I would doubt they would have stopped.

Frisky was the only one behind Sean, and Sean came back for me. I was totally greatfull for that. I am sure Damon would have done the same for me.

All in all, I am just happy to have had some help. The car seems to be fine right now, with no more issues. I think maybe it was the heat coupled wth having my A/C on that caused the problem. Maybe I had bubbles in the power steering line, but I have no idea. I can't take it in unless I can duplicate the problem.

Oh well....Glad you all had fun. I wish I could have done the whole cruise with you all, but shit happens.
