I'm sure by now that everyone has been wondering what has been going on and why the site has been down for the last couple of days.

Suffice it to say that the hosting company had a catastrophic failure on two of their servers in the datacenter that hosts a portion of the site. The failure was the result of a malicious hack. Being that this company is so wonderful, they kept no redundant backups of anything on either server. What that means is that everything that was on those machines is lost.

How does that affect LAMC? The obvious affect is that our databases sat on one of these servers. There were NO backups of any kind made.

So, pretty much every post made over the last 5 years has been lost. It also means that the forums are being rebuilt and will probably have a thing or two missing at the get go; things like some forums and some items like the Arcade, vB Garage, the Timeslips Database, the assorted smilies, and of course, all the user data. All of these things will be added back onto the board as I try to find the mods/hacks for the various items we had installed and probably updated as I gradually migrate us from the current vB 3.6.12 to vB 3.8.2.

This also means that you'll have to register all over again.

The good thing is that I had made a backup of all the photos and files that were part of the main LAMC site. This includes the banner at the top of the forums and all of the smilies, which will be added in gradually. I have the Arcade game files and those will also be added back gradually.

This sucks and I'm sorry that I had not personally made a backup of the database. I also apologize for the inconvenience of the board being down the past couple of days. Mark and I did a lot of talking and some shouting at the host for this problem. No one can blame them for hardware failure because it happens, however them not having any backup contingencies is deplorable to me.

So, the search for a new host is currently underway. If anyone has any suggestions, please forward them to either Mark or myself.

The site will be open for registrations and posting shortly, just as soon as the majority of the forums are added back.
